Load Restraint Awareness
Provides participants with a general understanding of load restraint principles to ensure that loads are safe for the driver and the community as a whole.
Description
Through a series of practical sessions over the course of one day, this course focusses on applying restraint methods and conducting load inspections based on the requirements of the National Transport Commission Load Restraint Guide 2018 or a certified load plan.
Key topics covered:
- An Introduction to Load Restraint – Facts & Myths of Load Restraint, the importance of correct load restraint, legal requirements, why loads shift – forwards, sideways, rearwards, vertical forces and vehicle stability.
- Understanding the Load – Choosing a suitable vehicle, packaging, friction, unstable loads
- Load Restraint Equipment – Headboards, Side Gates, Side Curtains, Webbing, Chain, Dunnage, Friction surfaces (e.g. rubber)
- Load Configuration – Load Placement, Belly wrapping/choking, gaps in loads
- Load Restraint Methods – Tie-Down, Blocking,
- Containing and Attaching (including how to calculate the number of restraints)
- Conducting Load Inspections – Why and how
Who should attend:
Heavy Vehicle Drivers, Transport Operators, Loading Managers, Loaders, Unloaders and Packers.
Upon successful completion of this course the participants will receive a Statement of Completion certificate and a copy of the National Transport Commission Load Restraint Guide 2018.
